Monitor Warnings Instead of Skipping Them

As you are using your computer, you receive a warning. That warning could be anything, but you think it is annoying so you just cancel it out and keep going. Doing this could put your system at risk many times over. The better you are at managing these warnings the more effective your system will be.

What to Do

If a warning pops up on your computer screen, know how to react. In most cases, doing so does not have to be hard.

  • Read what the warning message says. Sometimes, websites can use pop up ads to get your attention and they can look very much like a computer warning, but are not.
  • A warning message from a software program on your computer is most likely to be focused specifically on the updates or needs of that program. Open up the program to find out what the concerns are.
  • For those that come from your operating system, take action sooner rather than later. Often, errors or mistakes in the way the system works can occur, leading to problems. You can often find error messages like this displayed on your system’s main screen.
  • Software and antivirus screenings can often pop up warnings to tell you about a virus, spyware or other type of malicious program on your computer. Take action with these right away.
  • For any other type, find out what the source is and investigate that way to determine what the cause is.

Overall, the worst thing you can do for your system is to not put enough attention on such warnings. If you receive one, find out what is causing it and fix it.
